We’re proud to announce that Albany Leadership Charter School for Girls has been awarded a $17,500 grant to expand our “Girls Rising: Empowerment & Wellness Program”—a comprehensive initiative aimed at promoting student well-being and addressing rising concerns around tobacco and substance use.
Launched this year as part of our health curriculum, the program blends education with action through interactive workshops, counseling sessions, and peer-led activities, using evidence-based strategies to empower our students. In its pilot phase, the program served 80 middle and high school students over a 10-week semester, in partnership with Capital District Tobacco-Free Communities and the Addictions Care Center of Albany.
Thanks to this new funding, we’re excited to expand the program to reach 200 students next year, making it a permanent and powerful part of our wellness education. This initiative aligns with our mission—and Albany County’s commitment—to protect and promote youth health, helping students make informed, confident choices for their futures.
Together, we rise!
