Albany, NY – September 29, 2025– Albany Leadership Charter School for Girls opened its doors to the entire community today for a powerful Suicide Awareness and Prevention event focused on reflection, support, and hope.
The evening featured a moving candlelight vigil, where attendees joined together to remember those we have lost, honor survivors, and raise awareness of the importance of mental health and suicide prevention.
In addition to the vigil, community members had access to valuable resources and educational materials. These resources included how to:
-
Recognize the warning signs of suicide
-
Identify changes within yourself that may signal the need for support
-
Offer help to someone who may be struggling
-
Connect with professional crisis services and hotlines
“Events like this remind us that it’s okay to not be okay, and that no one has to go through difficult times alone,” said Principal Woods. “Our hope is that every attendee left knowing that their life matters and that there are resources and people ready to support them.”
Albany Leadership remains committed to fostering open conversations about mental health and ensuring that both students and community members know where to turn for help.
If you or someone you know is struggling, please call or text the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988. Support is available 24/7.
