Rebecca (Class of 2021) and Tofunmi (Class of 2014) were interviewed by Spectrum News to discuss their historic academic achievements as the first family in Albany Leadership’s history to have two valedictorians. Tofumi, graduated from ALH in 2014 as the valedictorian of the first graduating class of the school while Rebecca will be the valedictorian this year as the school embarks on an expansion to include a 6th-grade continuum, entering the school into a new era in its history.

During the interview, Rebecca discussed how she developed the focus and drive to achieve academically, what she enjoys about her experiences at Albany Leadership, and what support she has had from friends and family along the way.

Rebecca has attended charter schools since her arrival to the United States at 4 years old. While at Albany Leadership, she has not only excelled in the classroom taking honors classes and University at the High School courses, but also in curricular activities such as ALH Sports (Basketball, Volleyball, and Indoor/ Outdoor Track), the UAlbany STEP Program and her internship with the Mission Accomplished Transition Services Social Entrepreneurship Institute.

Rebecca completed the interview in person, while Tofunmi participated remotely. During the interview both sisters attributed their success to the love and support they received from their parents, both saying they wanted to make their parents proud.

Rebecca has committed to attend Syracuse University in the Fall of 2021, which is the alma mater of her sister Tofunmi. Albany Leadership is very proud of the accomplishments of both ladies and will continue to follow this story.
