Dear ALCS Families:
Albany Leadership Charter High School for Girls received its five-year renewal recommendation from the SUNY Charter Schools Institute (CSI) in January 2018 for the charter term 2018-2023, and the SUNY Board of Trustees granted this renewal. Albany Leadership submitted its application, and received approval, for expansion to include grades 6-8 in 2021. We proudly welcomed our first class of 6th graders for the 2021-2022 school year, and this year, we are fully enrolled for grades 6-12. Albany Leadership Charter School for Girls has submitted its application for subsequent renewal for the next five-year charter term, 2023-2028, and CSI will be conducting its renewal evaluation visits to both the middle school and high school on October 12th and 13th.
The following excerpt from the CSI website explains the purpose and nature of the visits: “School visits may result in letters or reports that provide information to school leadership, parents and the public about the progress of each school. These visits are conducted by the Institute more frequently in the initial charter term and at least once in subsequent charter terms. The visit teams may interview school leaders, board members, staff and students, observe classroom instruction, and review school documents and student work to determine the effectiveness of the school in certain areas. The quality of curriculum and instruction, the system of assessment and feedback, fidelity to the school charter and mission, and the culture of the school are all areas evaluated by the team.”
Albany Leadership continues to strive for excellence in student achievement and engages in a process of ongoing, overall school improvement. We are committed to establishing and maintaining our status as a premiere high school for young women in the Capital Region, and we are confident that the feedback from CSI’s visit will be positive and will assist us in accomplishing our ambitious goals.
