At Albany Leadership we treat our parents/guardians like family, and our students become our daughters and so it is only right that Albany Leadership would have a tradition of hosting a family-style dinner to expresses our thanks and gratitude for our community and kick-off the holiday season.

The Annual Community Dinner has been a staple of the ALH academic year, and one that we look forward to each and every year. However, with the onset of this pandemic, we have had to make some changes to the ways in which we serve and celebrate our community. In previous years’ we have been able to transform our school’s Student Union into a space that allowed us to enjoy a warm meal with students, families, teachers, and community partners. This year we were still able to serve over 300 meals at curbside, with the help of our wonderful staff, students, and presenting sponsors M&T Bank.

We are grateful to our teachers who volunteered to deliver meals to the families who were unable to stop by on Thursday. We are also grateful to Ms. Smades MSW who partnered with the Havoc Basketball team to distribute 50 turkeys and holiday meal-to-go bags.

Albany Leadership also emphasizes the importance of leadership through service by encouraging students to be active leaders within their communities through volunteerism. Last year we initiated the ALH Community Engagement Awards, honoring an ALH student, teacher, and board member for their dedication, service, and leadership to the greater capital region. This year we highlight, Hebah M (Grade 11), Vincenzo Hines (Math Teacher), and Eldon Harris (ALH Board Member). To learn more about their service to the community, check out our video here.

This years’ community dinner may have looked a little different, but fellowship, service, and compassion among ALH students, families, and staff remained the same.

From our family to yours, have a safe and happy holiday.
