Tamara Smith is excited to serve as the new Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Accountability at Albany Leadership Charter School for Girls, where she collaborates with a passionate team to create engaging, student-centered learning experiences. With nearly 20 years in education, Ms. Smith has dedicated her career to instructional leadership, social justice, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
In her role, Ms. Smith ensures that the ALCS curriculum is both rigorous and accessible for all learners while equipping teachers with the tools and professional development they need to succeed. She is committed to fostering a positive, collaborative environment where educators feel empowered to explore new ideas and share best practices.
Before stepping into this leadership role, Ms. Smith served as an Assistant Principal in Ulster and Dutchess Counties for five years and spent 13 years as a classroom teacher in the Bronx, NY. During her time in the classroom, she took on various leadership roles, including Dean of Students, Math Coach, and Peer Collaborative Teacher. These experiences continue to shape her belief in continuous professional growth and educational excellence.
Outside of work, Ms. Smith is a devoted mother, sister, and friend. Her two daughters, Zaryiah and Jahirah, are a constant source of inspiration in her educational journey. Passionate about the evolving landscape of education and its impact on her children’s future, she remains deeply committed to her work. A self-proclaimed nerd and avid Star Wars fan, she enjoys spending her free time with family and close friends. She is also a strong advocate for the power of community, actively building connections that support both educators and scholars in their academic and personal growth.
